Susannah Clifford Blachly grew up in Cornwall Vermont and began studying classical violin age 7. She played through college then more or less stopped until the year 2000 when she took a fiddle lesson with the Vermont musician Pete Sutherland and became instantly hooked. Within a year she was writing her own tunes and playing in dance halls throughout Vermont.

Susannah soon expanded her musical skills to include song writing, which culminated in her 2004 CD release Girl In The Photograph, a recording containing an eclectic mix of her original fiddle tunes and songs. Upon hearing the results of her first full-length recording, Robert Resnik, host of VPR's All The Traditions, described Susannah as a "master composer and performer of many styles of music." In 2005, Sing Out! magazine published one of the cuts, "Secret Place", in their summer '05 issue. Voted one of the top ten CDs of 2004 by Vermont's premier arts weekly, Seven Days, the CD continues to receive critical acclaim.
